STAR Program
The program offered by the FTAAI is STAR (Sexual Trauma and Recovery). This program utilizes the client’s strengths in order to promote recovery from Sexually compulsive behavior and the underlying trauma that precipitates it.
Goals of STAR: Establish sobriety, break through denial, understand the
nature of the addiction, take responsibility for behaviors, surrender to the
process, limit damage from behavior, increase victim empathy, develop support
systems, reduce shame, grieve losses, acknowledge cycles of abuse and improve
family relationships.
How are these goals achieved? Clients are helped in achieving these goals
by: Sexual addiction assessment including sexual dependency and consequences
inventory, developing an addiction interaction disorder prevention plan,
involvement in a 12 step sexual addiction fellowship, group therapy focusing on
family of origin issues, core labs which are psycho-educational experiences
designed to teach specific skills and information about recovery, celibacy
agreement, family therapy, and developing a relapse prevention plan. Our staff
consists of a multi-disciplinary team who incorporate the 12 Steps, a family
systems perspective, education and a trauma-based focus.
